It all starts with the clay

Mr Potter was created in 2020 by husband and wife team Stephen and Becca. We are an independent studio focused on small-scale intentional making.

Our slower, handcrafted approach celebrates the natural materials which form each piece.

Each Mr Potter piece is handmade, reflecting the maker’s touch and the time-honored craft of wheel-thrown ceramics —the gentle lines from the wheel, a finger dent from its hand-dipped glaze.

These perfect imperfections are our signature, making each item uniquely individual—wabi-sabi.

We specialise in tableware for restaurants – our work graces the tables of some of New Zealand’s most innovative chefs.

Alongside our restaurant collaborations, our work is sold exclusively here on our website and on Rita Edited, unless stated otherwise. Our pieces are durable, easy to care for, and timeless in both form and function.

Stephen is the ceramicist behind Mr Potter. His style is heavily influenced by the many places and cultures he has been to and experienced, as well as the food he envisions being served on his pieces. Inspired by the raw beauty of New Zealand’s natural landscape, he gravitates towards neutral glazes to highlight the natural beauty of the clay and the forms it takes.

Becca runs the operations at Mr Potter, overseeing everything from logistics and restaurant collaborations to branding and customer experience - whilst also navigating life as a full-time mum.
